March 17 BUZZ

Happy Monday!

Last Friday was busy with two assemblies! Elder Wilson and the drumming assembly was amazing!

Thank you School Council for supporting our school with the amazing Pi-A-Thon! What a fun way to reinforce literacy and numeracy skills, earning money to support field trips and getting to "pie" school staff!

We only have a four day week as Friday is a school closure day, we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Spring Break!

It's a great week for a great week!

Staff and students had the opportunity to learn about Indigenous culture through an engaging session with Elder Wilson, who drummed and shared his stories. We also enjoyed learning a traditional dance to the rhythm of the drum and sang a song together.

Early learning lays the foundation for success in primary grades and beyond. As such, EIPS offers the pre-kindergarten PALS program in five of its elementary school locations—including . Applications are now open for free speech-language assessments for those interested in registering in the PALS program this fall. The assessment helps determine if PALS is appropriate for your child.

If you know a preschooler, born in 2021 or 2022, who could benefit from pre-kindergarten programming or want to book an assessment, fill out the PALS Program Request Form or call 780-417-8219. For more information, visit eips.ca.

Regulation Strategy - Opposite Time

Here at Glen Allan we are aimed at enhancing capacity to nurture emotional resilience and well-being among students. We are actively involved in collaborating with our staff to introduce effective regulation strategies and deepen understandings of brain development. We continue to work on integrating these strategies into everyday classroom practices. This weeks strategy is Opposite Time.

First, have someone ask you to raise your right arm, then your right leg, followed by your left arm and left leg. Do this 2 times as they are called them out in this order.

Now switch things up! When someone says, “right arm,” you must raise your left arm instead, if someone calls "left arm" you raise your right arm and same pattern for your legs.
