February 24 BUZZ

Happy Monday!

Here we are in the last week of February already! Finally the temperatures have started warming up and everyone can get outside for some well needed fresh air.

February is kindness month, and the students of Glen Allan have been spreading cheer all month long, and this Wednesday is Pink Shirt Day to further support kindness.

Thank you to all the parents who attended our School Council meeting last Thursday. We appreciate you and all you do for our school!

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our Family Dance this Friday. Volunteers are still needed, please refer below for more information.

It's a great week for a great week!

Kindergarten Registration is Now Open!

Is your child turning five on or before Dec. 31, 2025? If so, it’s now time to register for kindergarten. To register, simply complete the online registration form at eips.ca/kindergarten.

To help families prepare, Elk Island Public Schools has put together an online EIPS Kindergarten Tool kit to make the transition as smooth as possible. The kit includes information on registration, important dates, programming options, what to expect, eligibility, how to find your designated school, transportation and more.

New for the 2025-26 school year, EIPS is piloting three full-day, every-day kindergarten programs. If interested, families can register their children for these programs until February 28. Learn more

Regulation Strategy - Mind Colors

Here at Glen Allan we are aimed at enhancing capacity to nurture emotional resilience and well-being among students. We are actively involved in collaborating with our staff to introduce effective regulation strategies and deepen understandings of brain development. We continue to work on integrating these strategies into everyday classroom practices.

The strategy we practiced this week is "Mind Colors". For this strategy you are going to look around the room and quietly find

  • 1 thing that is red
  • 1 thing that is orange
  • 1 thing that is yellow
  • 1 thing that is green
  • 1 thing that is blue

You can choose to write them down or keep them in your head.

This strategy switches your mind to focus on a different task which allows you to take a moment from the stress or anxiety you might be having. This focused attention strategy is one that you can easily use when in the classroom and is great for a mind reset when writing tests or whenever you may need!
